Member Night at the SF MOMA

Last Christmas we were gifted a SF MOMA membership so I thought it would be nice to take advantage of the member event they had tonight. It’s free for members and they have music and drinks and you can wander around and enjoy the art. We don’t go out just my husband and I that often so it was a nice treat.

They also opened up the Amy Sherald exhibition (she painted the Michelle Obama portrait which they also had on display). It officially opens tomorrow so we got a little preview.

It was a nice way to start the weekend. I could get used to it.

Do you have any fun plans for the upcoming weekend?

  1. This reminds me that I keep wanting to visit our local art museum(s). It’s a wonderful gift to have art in your own backyard – how nice to take advantage of it!

  2. Oh, I love doing stuff like this. We were at one point members of our art museum, and did a couple of these. But the whole complex is under reno (3 years and counting) so I’ve missed my art. I can sit in a gallery and just look at paintings for hours.

  3. My stepmom always gives me money for Christmas and my birthday (which is a week after Christmas), and sometimes I will buy a membership to the De Young and Legion of Honor. I haven’t since the pandemic, they haven’t had any exhibits that I want to see. BUT now that Mary Cassatt is at the LoH, I am planning to buy the membership this year. I want to go on my birthday and see that exhibit, have lunch in the City, and then be home in the evening.

We went to the MoMA a few months ago and saw some wonderful exhibits. I sometimes forget about that museum and what great art they have. I am glad you had such a lovely grown up evening!

    1. It was really nice! We are so lucky to have so many museums here. I saw the Botticelli exhibit at the LoH with a friend and thought it was great. Time gets the better of me most of the time but every time I go I think to myself I should do it more often.
