It started really well. We left at 10am and had 4 hours to drive – I thought maybe 5 with stops. Little did I know that dust storms will close freeways. 9 hours later we arrived. Note to self (and everyone who will want to hear): Google does not know everything. Maps tried to send us on a dirt road over the mountains. It was all good until the real road suddenly ended and cars already came back telling us we should turn around (which we did). At least we were not the only ones listening. The good news was that we made it safe and sound to our destination in the end.

Oh geez — this sounds AWFUL. I am so sorry you got caught in this. And very glad you made it home safely.

It was pretty bad but much better than the time we got stuck in a snow storm.

This does sound awful. It’s always more fun when a trip goes FASTER than expected. Good job rolling with it and I’m so glad you got there safely.

I guess we had no choice 😂 we made it to a gas station before getting back on the freeway. Can you imagine getting into traffic and running out of gas?

That’s some serious traffic! I hope you enjoy your visit with your friends. The drive to Vegas is mostly pretty yucky, as I remember (I’ve only done it once, a LONG time ago).

The drive down I-5 is usually worse as there is absolutely nothing to do for 5 hours. Who would have thought there was a dust storm. Ah well, we made it and are so happy to see our friends again!

Oh man. This does not sound like an enjoyable ride. Shame on you, google. Coach tried to folllow google or something when we were traveling in Prague and I almost tossed his phone over a castle wall. I was like READ THE SIGNS. IT SAYS TO GO THAT WAY. WHO CARES WHAT YOUR PHONE IS TELLING YOU.

😂 I so feel you. It’s still so much better than me reading the map and trying to get him to drive in the right direction.

Oh wow. Yeah, as useful as Google Maps is, it doesn’t know EVERYTHING. I am glad you made it safely.

Oh no that is no fun. We’ve been locked down in Denver airport ones with dust storms. Something I had never experienced before. There is no such thing here in Germany I guess.
Glad you made it in the end even though that was a long day on the road.

Exactly. I had no idea what a real snow storm looked like until moving to the US – another road trip adventure.
